Concepts and Strategies Learned Throughout this inquiry, I've found that Web 2.0 tools can greatly impact learning. I've found that students no longer have to complete the traditional research paper in order to reach standards. Students learn much differently than they used to, so using a variety of technologies throughout a unit is important for their success. There are a variety of presentation tools and research tools for students to use. Students use critical thinking while using a tool they use nearly every day, the Internet.
Impact on Teaching I've discovered that not everything is pencil/paper anymore. There are so many ways to present information to students and many ways for students to present. I will no longer use written essays because it's so easy and practical for them to use their phones, iPads, and laptops to complete assignments. I've already implemented blogs into my classroom, and the kids love them. They love to comment on each other's and see what comments I left for them as well. Students can work collaboratively with others using Wikis. They provide many opportunities for students to learn from one another. I've found students are wonderful teachers for using Web 2.0 tools, so they can help others and the teacher learn.
Benefits Not only do Web 2.0 tools save paper, they save the monotony of things. It allows students to use critical thinking and to work collaboratively using the Internet, which most kids use every day. The tools also allow students to explore a variety of reliable sources available online.
Teaching Practice After completing the inquiry, I will work to use Web 2.0 tools more and more in my classroom. I will integrate technology into lessons and allow students to work collaboratively using Wikis. There is so much more to teaching and learning then a textbook, and students should be exposed to new ways of learning. It is my job as an educator to bring their learning to life through teaching, and technology can help do just that.
